LOCKDOWN DRAWINGS, QUEENS NY AND BERKSHIRE COUNTY MA 2020

As a parent living in Queens during the pandemic, an intense awareness of our fragile mortality galvanized my work. Since lockdown I've been working on single observational drawings of what has been accessible – weeds like smooth crabgrass, mugwort, dames rocket, lambs quarters and ribwort and my own garden plants..

The drawings began as a way to test my uncertainties about visual arts’ power during an unfathomable time. Yet by the slow process of drawing those opportunistic and invasive plants, I found I can deeply connect with the natural world -- this relentless drive for growth and reproduction -- amidst such loss of human life in the global pandemic.
